On the 4th Thursday of the month, Shakti in the Mountains invites you to explore a gift economy. A gift economy is one in which money is not used and exchanges do not have to be transactional. Here is how it works: You bring items that you are willing to gift to another. These items can be homemade (we love homemade items) or items which you no longer need. Remember this is a gift exchange so please bring items that would truly be seen as a gift. In other words, this event is not a place to dump unwanted clutter.
The Shakti Gift Exchange also is an opportunity to play with the concept of reciprocity. For example, someone may want a pair of earrings you brought but you may not want anything that the earring procurer brought. Instead of declining the exchange, you trust that someone else at the event will have something you desire. Letting go of the need to make exchanges transactional is one way to practice gratitude and generosity. Are you ready to play?
Because it is a Shakti in the Mountains’ event, we are compelled to involve food. (We like to eat!) The Gift Exchange will begin with a potluck dinner, so please bring a dish to share. All ages and genders welcomed.
