Hi Friends. Luna McFeisty here answering all your Badge Program questions. This week I have some questions for Kim about the Badge Buddy concept.

LM – In a nutshell, what are Badge Buddies?

KBM – Badge buddies are individuals that you can call on to help support and encourage you while you are working on your badge. They can be someone you already know or a new friend that you would like to get to know more. You select who you would like to support you.

LM – What are the responsibilities of a Badge Buddy?

KBM – A Badge Buddy can work with a badge earner in any way that is helpful to the person working on the badge. A list of possible supports a Badge Buddy can provide is on the Shakti Badge Program page.

LM – Is a Badge Buddy required if people want to earn Shakti badges?

KBM – Badge Buddies are completely optional in the badge program.

LM – Does your buddy have to be working on the same badge that you are working on?

KBM – You do not have to be working on the same badge as your buddy – or on any badge if none are currently of interest to you. If you want to help support and encourage someone else as they work to achieve their goals, you can be a Badge Buddy. You do not have to have skills or specific interests in your buddy’s badge, you are there to encourage and support and empower.

LM – What if someone doesn’t have someone to ask to be a Badge Buddy?

KBM – If you would like to find a Badge Buddy, a list of possible Badge Buddies can be found in the Badge Book at Shakti Makerspace or you can contact us here for help getting connected with someone.

LM – This sounds fun. What if someone would like to be a Badge Buddy?

KBM – If you would like to BE a Badge Buddy for someone else, contact us here and we will include your name and contact information on the available Badge Buddy list.

BADGE Question of the Week

LM – Here is a question I received this week about the badge program. “Do you have to be able to come regularly to the Makerspace or Shakti Workshops to participate in the Badge program?”

KBM – Excellent question. The answer is no, you do not. The requirements for the badges are flexible and many can be completed in a variety of ways and places – including your own home. Shakti will offer workshops and opportunities to participate in activities that help you work toward meeting requirements, but those are not your only options to do so. You can complete the badges without ever coming to Shakti, although we would love to see you. If you discover options that we have not yet considered to complete a requirement, please share them with us, so that we can share them with others.

LM – To my readers, if you have any questions about the Badge program that you would like me to investigate please send them to me here. Thank you.
