One observation I’ve had since practicing physical distancing is the alleviation of the pressure to produce.
Instead I feel engaged.
Whether that is spreading compost in raised beds or making homemade bread or offering a meditation on Facebook Live, I am aware of the contentment which comes from being fully present in the moment.
Being with the here and now also gives me permission to sit with less comfortable feelings such as fear, anxiety and hurt.
I am noticing my capacity to experience the unpleasant increases the more I am able to be in the moment, and much to my relief, the unpleasant sensations do not last as long.
I believe this new growth can be attributed to being more grounded and centered.
When I remove the pressure to produce, when I fully engage in the here and now, when I give myself permission to feel the feels, I am building a deeper relationship between my ego self and my big Self. My ego self, the persona I project, is learning to trust and to respect my big Self, my natural essence, to take care of business.
The ego self is learning that she does not have to have an answer for everything or has to fix anything; rather she can stay present and trust her big Self to manage whatever is coming her way. While I have grappled with this relationship before, I am finding that the global crisis, the new normal, is giving me an opportunity to dig deeper and to allow another layer of healing and growth to occur.
I am curious. What are you noticing as a result of this unexpected change in our lifestyles? How are you coping with the new normal? Please email me below if you wish to share.
